I came so close to buying a Gali Girl today. I visited the store in person that is listed on their website that carries them. I wanted the red-head modern doll. They had every other doll except that one! They even had the historical Miriam, which is the same doll but in a different outfit.

At first I considered getting that one, but then I realized that Miriam didn't come with the wooden Shabbat set or a birth/name certificate, both of which I really wanted. In addition, this store was actually charging $10 more for the Miriam doll than the other modern Gali Girls they had because it came with a book, even though it didn't come with that other stuff. That's also $10 more than the website charges. If they had the doll I wanted I probably would have caved even though I really should not be buying any doll stuff right now, since I'm still receiving orders from AG made a month or so ago and I'm trying to pay off a credit card debt.

I did buy the book by itself. It's about a Jewish immigrant girl that comes to America in 1914 with her 2 sisters and mother from Russia, to meet her father in New York who was already here. I haven't read it yet, but there are lots of colorful illustrations and in the back pages there are pictures of all the Gali Girl dolls. From what I know up to this point, the story reminds me of the Dear America book called Dreams In The Golden Country.

There are 2 other Jewish historical books from Gali Girls but they don't have corresponding dolls. One takes place in 1662 and is called "Shoshana and the Native Rose" and the other takes place in China in 1175 and called Reyna and the Jade Star. All the books feature Jewish characters. I don't know anything about these other books besides the info I gave here. So anyone wanting AG to make a Jewish historical might be interested in these books and/or dolls.

They are only available at a few stores around the country and only 1 in IL.
